Showing Improvement

Twins Update #3- Over the weekend the twins continued to do partial feedings through their NG tube and bottle. On Sunday they both weighed exactly the same, 4 lbs 6.5 oz. or 2000 grams. The nurse caring for the twins during the night has been a nurse for 35 years and she said she has never had two babies weigh the exact same. The nurses kept telling us that we needed to go and buy a lottery ticket because of the odds of their same weight. I guess the boys are just showing that they are identical twins. :)

Both boys' bilirubin levels went down, so as of this morning, both are no longer needing to be on the phototherapy beds. This morning the neonatologist told us that he likely sees the boys needing to stay in the hospital until Thursday or Friday. They need to be taking all of their feedings by bottle without any partial feeding through their NG tube. The neonatologist had to call the doctors at the hospital downtown to see if we could keep the twins at the hospital near our house, and thankfully the cost of transferring them would be greater than keeping them for a few more days at the current NICU, so we won't be having to stay in downtown Denver. This was a huge answer to our prayers!

Today we had a wonderful nurse who helped us come up with other ideas of how to make it easier for the boys to eat from the bottle without making them too tired. At 3 pm they let them sleep and just fed the boys through their NG tubes, so the boys were awake and ready to eat when Kyle and I went up to the hopsital to feed them at 6. They both took the full 35 ml by bottle! Kyle and I were so encouraged to see this. We are hopeful that when we go up to the hospital tonight for the midnight feeding that Drew & Evan will feed again by bottle only.

Even though Kyle and I are existing on only 3 hours of sleep a night, we know that God is giving us the strength to make the many trips to the hospital and have time with Caitlyn & Brayden. We are so thankful for all of your prayers!
Brayden waiting patiently (thanks to Uncle Kelly letting him play a game on his phone) for his turn to see his brothers in the NICU.
